Try our introduction to kendo: Beginners course
Sign up for our 3-month introductory course and experience the martial art of kendo for yourself!
What does it include:

You will train twice a week with our senior kendo instructors for the first 3 introductory months. You’ll start with a bamboo sword (shinai) provided by the dojo and learn the basics of kendo footwork, sword motion as well as vocabulary and etiquette. All you'll need is a pair of tracksuit pants and a t-shirt.

R1300 for the three months* - this includes a club t-shirt & membership to the South African Kendo Federation (click here to find out about the benefits of membership).
* Monthly rate is available upon special request. Thereafter regular monthly fees will apply (please see below).

You're never too old to start kendo...

R560 a month dojo membership or R5600 annual fee (save 2 months!)

Annual SAKF affiliation fee (R340*).

Membership benefits: You'll be able to train twice a week (and most Saturdays). In addition, the SAKF affiliation fee allows you to train at any other dojo in the country. This means you could potentially train up to 5 times a week! You will also be able to grade and attend special kendo seminars - often taught by high-ranking international kendo senseis. Not to mention you'll become part of a close, supportive kendo community.
U10 members (Children/kids)

R220 a month dojo membership or R2200 annual fee (save 2 months!)

Membership benefits: You'll be able to train once a week and learn the basics of Kendo while having fun. In addition, San Kawa has their very own kids kendo syllabus and mascot called the Three-Tailed Kitsune! You will also be able to grade and attend special kendo seminars - often taught by high-ranking international kendo senseis. Not to mention you'll become part of a close, supportive kendo community.
U23 members (pupils/scholars)
Pupils, students and members under the age of 23

R400 a month dojo membership or R4000 annual fee (save 2 months!)

Annual SAKF affiliation fee (R250* of pupils U18, R340* for over 18).

Membership benefits: You'll be able to train twice a week (and most Saturdays). In addition, the SAKF affiliation fee allows you to train at any other dojo in the country. This means you could potentially train up to 5 times a week! You will also be able to grade and attend special kendo seminars - often taught by high-ranking international kendo senseis. Not to mention you'll become part of a close, supportive kendo community.
